San Jose, CA · the largest South Bay market

In San Jose, the profile is the fastest thing you own.

$175/mo. Organic head terms here are contested and slow. Your Google profile moves in days to weeks, and most of the fifty competitors on the map have never audited their categories once.

You are not competing with San Jose. You are competing with your neighbours.

Owners in a city this size assume the map pack is a citywide leaderboard and that a business with four hundred reviews across town has already won. It has not, and it cannot, because proximity is roughly 55% of the ranking and San Jose is too large for anyone to be near everyone.

The practical version: your realistic target is being one of the three shown to people within a few miles of you. That is a much smaller fight, and it is winnable with ordinary competence — which is what most of the profiles above you are missing.

Categories, and what your competitors are using

We search your main terms on Google Maps from your part of the city, and record the primary and secondary categories of every business ranking above you. The categories all three share and you do not have are the first thing we fix.

Target: one precise primary and about four genuinely accurate secondaries, which is where profiles show the best average map rank. In a dense market this is where the cheapest wins live, because almost nobody revisits a choice they made in a hurry at signup three years ago.

Reviews are the differentiator when everything else is equal

When fifty similar businesses sit in a five-mile radius, the profile people click is the one that looks alive. Recent reviews, replies underneath every one of them, current photos, hours that are right on a holiday weekend.

We answer every review within 24 hours and work the whole profile toward an 80%+ reply rate, including the backlog. On a bad review, the reply is not damage control — it is the sales pitch. A specific, non-defensive answer that names what went wrong and says what changed reads better to the next customer than a silent five-star average. We wrote the full method down here.

We do not incentivise reviews. It is explicitly prohibited by Google and it risks the listing you depend on. We ask, on every completed job, and that works better anyway.

What we actually change in month one

Primary category corrected against the businesses ranking above you. Four accurate secondaries added. Services section filled — if a service is not listed you do not exist for it. Description written to 750 characters with the first 250 doing the work, because the rest sits behind a “More” link nobody taps. Service area set honestly. Every unanswered review answered.

None of that is clever. All of it is usually undone.

What we will not claim

Photo geotagging does nothing — controlled testing debunked it and we removed it from our own service description. Weekly posts do not move rankings; a nine-week study across 441 keywords found zero movement, so we post for trust and click-through and say which one we are doing it for. And we will not stuff your business name, which is exactly what the August 2025 spam update suspended profiles over.

We do not remove or suppress reviews. We answer them. If you want a rough read on where you stand before you call, the free grader uses the same weighting we do.

San Jose · straight answers

What San Jose owners ask about the profile.

Why does my ranking change depending on who is searching?

Because proximity is roughly 55% of what decides the map pack, and San Jose is about 180 square miles. Your customer in Cambrian and your customer in Berryessa are being shown two different sets of three businesses.

This is the single most misunderstood thing about local search in a big city. You are not competing with every business in San Jose. You are competing with the ones near each customer — which is why a small operator with a well-run profile can beat a larger competitor across their own part of the city.

There are already fifty businesses like mine on the map. Is it worth it?

In a market this dense, yes — and more so than the website, at least at first.

The profile carries roughly a third of the controllable local ranking weight and moves in days to weeks. A new website takes three to six months. When fifty competitors exist, the ones with the wrong primary category, no services filled in and an 18% reply rate are the majority, and moving past them is ordinary work rather than a miracle.

A competitor has keywords stuffed in their business name and ranks above me.

It happens, it works for a while, and we will not do it for you.

The August 2025 spam update suspended profiles for exactly this, and a suspension takes weeks to unwind if it unwinds at all. What you can do is report it — Google acts on name violations more reliably than on most report types — and then win on the parts they are probably neglecting, which in our experience is categories, services and reply rate.

How many reviews do I need to compete in San Jose?

Fewer than you think, and more recently than you think.

Velocity beats lifetime count. A profile with 40 reviews and four from the past month generally outperforms one with 200 that stopped two years ago — and in a market this size, the 200-review competitor who has replied to none of them is beatable by someone at 40 who replies to all of them within a day.

We'll read your profile back to you.

Live, on the phone, searched from your part of San Jose rather than ours — because that's the only version that tells you anything.

A person answers. Fixed prices: $250 + $40/mo, $199/mo, $175/mo — or all three for $325/mo.
