San Jose, CA · 15 minutes from base

San Jose web design that admits San Jose isn't one place.

A city of about a million people spread across 180 square miles. A site that says "serving San Jose" and nothing more is invisible to the person in Willow Glen deciding between you and someone three streets away. $250 to build, $40/mo to keep it live.

The mistake almost every San Jose small business site makes

It says “serving San Jose and the surrounding area” on the home page and stops. In a city this size that sentence carries no information. Willow Glen and Berryessa are twenty-five minutes and an entirely different customer apart. Almaden Valley and Alum Rock have almost nothing in common except a mailing city.

A customer in Cambrian who calls and discovers you only really cover the north end has wasted their afternoon and yours. A customer in Evergreen who would have called never did, because nothing on the page suggested you come out that far.

So the five pages we build for a San Jose business get specific about geography in plain text: which parts of the city you actually cover, which you will drive to for the right job, and which you do not. That single paragraph on the about page has closed more work for our clients than any headline we have written.

Why the map pack behaves strangely here

Proximity is roughly 55% of local pack ranking, and San Jose is big enough that the map pack visibly changes as you drive across it. Search the same term from Santana Row and from Silver Creek and you can get two different sets of three businesses.

That is genuinely good news for a small operator, because you do not have to beat the whole city. You have to beat the businesses near the customers you want. It is also why we will not promise citywide map pack coverage to anyone, including ourselves — we compete honestly in North San Jose and Berryessa from our Milpitas base and we say so on the San Jose SEO page rather than implying otherwise.

What we won't build you

A page for Willow Glen, a page for Almaden, a page for Evergreen, a page for Cambrian, all reading identically with the name swapped. That is a doorway page set, Google has explicitly targeted them, and it is the single most common thing we are asked for by owners who have read one SEO article.

The test is thirty seconds: swap the neighbourhood name and reread it. Still fine? Delete it. What we build instead is one strong San Jose page, real pages for the services you sell, and a single service areas page where a short honest paragraph per place is exactly right.

The other San Jose problem: everyone here has a nice website

This is a city where your customer’s day job might be at a company with a design team. The baseline expectation for what a competent website looks like is higher here than almost anywhere, and a site that would pass in another metro reads as neglected in this one.

Which is not an argument for spending ten thousand dollars. It is an argument for the site being fast, current, and obviously maintained — correct hours, real photos, a phone number that works on the first tap. Ours ship under about 100KB with no raster images at all, hand-built rather than assembled from a theme, which is both faster to load and quicker for us to change when your prices move.

What it costs, plainly

$250 to build. $40 a month for hosting, SSL, uptime and the content changes you ask for. You own the domain and the files. There is no page builder holding your content, because there is no page builder.

If you need it to start pulling San Jose searches rather than just existing, the retainer is the next step and it takes three to six months. If you want something that moves sooner, the Google profile work moves in days to weeks.

San Jose · straight answers

What San Jose owners ask.

Is $250 realistic for San Jose web design?

It is a real price for a real five-page site, and it is deliberately at the bottom of the range because the monthly is where we make our money.

What you will find quoted around San Jose runs from roughly $2,000 to well past $10,000 for a small business site, and a lot of that gap is agency overhead, stock photography and a page-builder licence rather than anything you can see. What we do not do at this price is custom illustration, e-commerce, booking integrations or a fifteen-page build. We will tell you on the call if you need one of those.

Are you based in San Jose?

No — Milpitas, about fifteen minutes up the 880. We say so rather than putting a San Jose address on the site, because a business that claims an address it does not occupy is both dishonest and a Google suspension risk.

In practice it means we can meet you anywhere in San Jose on a day's notice, and it means we are candid about the map pack: from a Milpitas profile we compete well in North San Jose and Berryessa and poorly in Almaden.

Do I need a San Jose page and a Willow Glen page and an Almaden page?

Almost certainly not, and the temptation to build them is how sites end up with twelve pages that all say the same thing.

Our test: swap the neighbourhood name for another one and reread the page. If it still works, it is a doorway page and Google treats it accordingly. Neighbourhood pages earn their place when there is something genuinely different to say — different housing stock, different permit rules, a different customer. Otherwise it is one San Jose page and a service-areas page.

How long does the build take?

Two to three weeks once we have your services, hours and photos. The delay is almost always content coming back from you, not build time from us — which is why we do the kickoff in person and take the notes ourselves where we can.

Call and tell us which half of San Jose you actually cover.

Ten minutes. We'll tell you what your five pages would say, what they'd cost, and whether a site is even the right thing to buy first.

A person answers. Fixed prices: $250 + $40/mo, $199/mo, $175/mo — or all three for $325/mo.
